I am a Spirit-taught artist who enjoys painting with vibrant colours, and experimenting with textures; a dissident writer who questions how we perceive reality; and a dreamer who is convinced that in each of us is dormant desire, waiting for an opportunity to be acknowledged, accepted, and expressed creatively. Born with a visual impairment, I have learnt not to accept reality as I perceive it with my physical eyes. My imagination is a place between dreams and reality, where I push the boundaries of what is possible; express my ideas through original oil and acrylic paintings, graphic designs and illustrations, poetry, and blog entries.
For me, visual art and writing go hand in hand in the
creative process. Both these mediums of expression, along with a deep spiritual
encounter, facilitated my passage through the dark night of my soul, a time of
great unraveling and transformation, where I discovered amidst the
deconstruction of who I thought I was, my true identity as an artist, and a
unique creative process linked to healing soul-wounds.
Creative expression therefore is more than an addendum to my
life. It is a necessity. Art is the compassionate alternative for alleviating
pain in the human experience. It is where the private and public meet
and meld seamlessly, a process that is inherently sacred.
It is my stubborn refusal to go down silently, without a
fight.
It is my voice.
