On Texture & Accessible Art

One Embrace - Metal Embossing

I am really beginning to experiment with texture on canvas. Texture, rends the painting a tactile, as well as three dimensional effect, which for me is quite important. Although my vision is not fully impaired, I have always wondered on how art could be made accessible for those who cannot see the renderings of the artist.

Although colour eludes those whose sight is darkened, art is not fully denied to those who cannot see. Sometimes, just to get myself into the experience of how someone who has full vision impairment, I close my eyes and try to trace whatever painting is before me, with the tips of my fingers.

The more I do it, the more I am convinced that beauty should be accessible to all people, even if it could bring a moment's joy . . .  (Not that those who have no sight are devoid of joy! That's an able-bodied assumption, and a misconception.)

Whether you have sight, partial sight or no sight at all, I know art touches our souls in such a way, which makes life, a little bit richer.

So, what do you think? Do you think this really helps in making art accessible? If not, what more can we do? What is already been done for art lovers with visual impairments in particular. I like to hear your ideas. Let's start a convo!
