#WIP: Creating without Intent

Thursday, 1 October 2015
What is creating without intent? To understand that, let me tell you what creating with intent is for me. Creating with intent is basically having a preconceived idea in your mind and doing everything you can within the parameters of your competency to bring that image to life.

Conversely, creating without intent is where you allow the process to guide you.

#WIP : Sing out O Barren Woman

Thursday, 3 September 2015
Earlier this year, I started out with this painting. It was a stretch for my level of skill at that time, since I had never done detailed drawings, or paintings of people before. On top of that, I did this work with charcoals.

#WIP: Experiments in Folk Art

Sunday, 9 August 2015
My husband is of Ukrainian descent and I thought of incorporating some of his cultural heritage into this experiment with folk art. After checking out many Ukrainian dresses I thought of adopting it into my own own creative depiction.

But the thing about this piece is, that it took several attempts to get it right.

#WIP : Re-Discovery

Tuesday, 28 July 2015
The other day, I started off on a new painting and after many hours of work, I just lost it and threw it in the garbage in frustration. I was mad at myself for the material wasted and for the time and energy spent in vain.

#WIP: Returning

Thursday, 9 July 2015
I never thought that this would be so hard.

Painting again.

In the last 40 days or so, I went through a time of transition, which was really painful. I felt like I was stripped down to my soul. Everything was laid bare. Just like when a storm hits the sea, churning up the sediments to the surface, the deeply entrenched lies, and crap hidden away in the sea bed of my soul floated to the top. . .

So here's the first of  my #WIP series. Read here for the intro about this project and why I started it.

Works In Progress (#WIP)

Wednesday, 3 June 2015
Recently at a workshop at the Cre8ery Gallery & Studio, Jordan Miller, the gallery's Executive Director advised us to keep a journal account of every piece we created, so that we would have a record of the various thoughts, and feelings we experienced while creating each piece. This practice, she said, would help us write or talk about our creative process, weeks or months after the piece was created.

I know when I hear a good idea! So here's my attempting at journaling, or let's say raw-documenting! Every week on Wednesdays I will post a picture of piece I'm working on, and follow it up with a brief blog entry the next day.

I sure appreciate your feedback in the creative process! Keep an eye out for #WIP on here, on FB or, Twitter.

Thank you!

Since my above post, I have changed how I post my W.I.P. Now, I find it's best to post a blog article on what I'm working on either Monday or Tuesday mornings / afternoons.
So look out for my #WIP then! I hope to eventually settle for Monday mornings at 10:30 am. Let's see how it goes!
